The Magnificat

I have been wanting to write something regarding the Magnificat for a while now. The Magnificat is found in the Gospel of Luke 1:46-55. Here we see that Mary’s soul magnifies or proclaims the Lord.
The one thing I cannot understand is how her soul can magnify the Lord or proclaim the Lord if most Protestants practically ignore her contribution [...]

Did I just see what I thought I saw on a Christian cable television network? “
These were the words that I asked myself after seeing a Christian Television show that featured some young skateboarders doing what they enjoy. At first I just thought this was a secular station that featured extreme sports. What happened next [...]

While I was reading some more of Ireneaus’ refutation of the Gnostic heresy, I came upon some more enlightening information on the early Church. In Book IV Chapter 26 you see Irenaeus affirming the Biblical teaching of the Church as the Pillar and Foundation of Truth. He futher elaborates on how that truth has been passed down.
2. Wherefore it [...]
Irenaeus and Apostolic Succession

Apostolic Succession was an early doctrine of the Church. While this doctrine can be substantiated from the Bible, it is beneficial to see how it was applied in the early Church. While Irenaeus is not the first to teach the doctrine, he does lay out the succession of the Church of Rome from Peter in his classic Adversus Haereses, [...]

As tomorrow is Valentines Day, I thought it would be nice to remember the Saint that the day commemorates. I am not going to take this time to examine the various legends surrounding this Saint, rather I would like to reflect on the true meaning of this day. While this day has come to be associated [...]
St. Irenaeus on Mary

In book 3 chapter 22 of Irenaeus’s masterful refutation of the Gnostic heresy, Adversus Haereses, we find Irenaeus referring to Mary as the “second Eve” the same as he refers to Jesus as the “second Adam”. Here we have an early acknowledgement of the role of Mary in the salvation story of mankind.
4. In accordance with this design, Mary the Virgin [...]
