Did I just see what I thought I saw on a Christian cable television network? “
These were the words that I asked myself after seeing a Christian Television show that featured some young skateboarders doing what they enjoy. At first I just thought this was a secular station that featured extreme sports. What happened next was somewhat curious. The skateboarders made a trip downtown and seemed to be aware that it was illegal to skateboard in the area. This did not stop them. Some of them ended up getting ticketed and another fled the police. I was 99 percent sure that this was a Christian Network because not long after did I hear some people talking about witnessing Christ to others. I checked what channel I had on because I thought that was odd and indeed it was a Christian Cable network. I will not say what channel it was as I am still not one hundred percent sure I did not change the channel. The shows topic seemed to fit what the channel guide said was on at the network at the time the show was on.
While I was not paying complete attention to the show, as I was not actively watching the television, I think that a show that has “Christians” breaking the law intentionally and other Christians deliberately evading police is suspect in my opinion.
Has the doctrine of “once saved always saved” led to this mentality? I can go ahead and break the law because it does not matter, because once I am saved I have a free ticket? I know that this is not what most that adhere to this doctrine believe, but this kind of activity makes me wonder.
If one cannot obey secular laws, how can they be obedient to Jesus Christ. While I do understand that if a law contradicts Christian beliefs that we are not obligated as Christians to adhere to it, nothing in what these kids were doing fell into this category.
Being a believer in Jesus Christ is being obedient to him. Obedience requires us to adhere to all of his teachings. I find it hard to believe that one who cannot obey the basic laws of society no matter how trivial, can be obedient to Jesus Christ. This show gave a terrible message to children and teens who follow Christ.
If someone else saw this, feel free to comment or clarify because I am still not sure what I just saw.
