These days you don’t hear about excommunications a whole lot, but they still happen and the Vatican has upheld several in St. Louis. Archbishop Raymond Burke of St. Louis had previously excommunicated dissident trustees of a St. Louis parish.
The parish had hired a priest who had been suspended in another Dioceses. This is itself is not normal, as priests are appointed by the Bishops not by parish trustees. The action of the trustees is a case of human pride amongst the trustees making themthink they are above the authority of the Church. Archbishop Burke is a staunch defender of the faith and it appears that some want to shape the Church in their own image. This is sad indeed. It is enlightening to see that the Vatican is backing up the excommunication. I applaud Archbishop Burke as he is one of a select group of Bishops that actively stands up for Church teaching!
Please pray for Archbishop Burke.
