The news has been disturbing lately around the world when it comes to religious freedom. It seems that the right to believe in the moral teachings of the Church are being slowly eroded, while the rights of groups that practice what some would call immoral acts are being reinforced. The craziness has got to stop.
Laws are being passed left and right giving rights to people based on sexual practices. These rights have slowly begun to supersede the right of religious belief. An article in Our Sunday Visitor indicated that a Catholic priest faces charges from the Canadian Human Rights Commission for the articles in a magazine that he edits. The magazine espouses time tested Catholic moral teachings. Others have been convicted and fined by the laws in Canada. Soon Catholic moral teaching will be considered hate speech and there may be a time that the Bible is considered hate speech!
To compare Catholic moral teaching to hate speech is ridiculous. The government is heading down slippery slope, when it can say that the Church does not have a right to disagree with homosexual marriage and lifestyle, which it has been considered sinful for over two thousand years. Soon fornicators, adulterers, polygamists, and pedophiles will be clamoring to be classified as a protected class. The Church does not hate homosexuals. The Church, in fact, loves them as people but dislikes the sinful behavior just as it dislikes any other sinful behaviors. This is not hate speech, this is truth and truth taught in love.
I doubt it will be illegal to ever be Catholic…
You know, so long as we keep our mouths shut!
Too bad you can’t really both be Catholic and silent. There’s the rub!
a simplesinner,
Good points. I do believe that it will become harder and harder to expouse the moral truths of the faith and not run into laws that essentially say that certain groups rights trump religious rights. There are those out there that would love to ban religion. I do pray for them.
